Mental Health Awareness - Yoga
This week for Mental Health Awareness Month, I will be focusing on yoga. Yoga is my favorite exercise, coping skill, and mindfulness activity. To a fault, I am always trying to do more than one thing at a time. Yoga is the master at completing multiple benefits all in one.
Here are some examples:
Strengthens and supports the body for current health, long-term wellness, and cognitive function
Encourages mindful breathing and present-moment awareness
Deepens connection to the body and its signals
Builds resilience by helping us sit with discomfort and move through challenges
Supports regulation of the nervous system
Promotes detoxification through movement and sweat
Fosters connection and shared energy with others
All in all, yoga is a super strategy to maintaining current and future mental health.
There is a privilege that comes with being able to move your body or pay for yoga classes. There are also great options for free at home yoga or low mobility yoga such as chair yoga.
If you find yourself wanting to benefit your physical and mental health – yoga is a great option. Let me know if you have questions or would like recommendations in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area or online.
Namaste and Happy Mental Health Awareness Month!
