Pride
My first experience at PrideFest in Milwaukee was three years ago. I was volunteering at a letter of readiness booth, supporting individuals who were pursuing gender-affirming care and navigating their transition journeys. The work was inspiring, and hearing people share their stories connected me to a past version of myself, a version still learning about identity, belonging, and the courage it takes to live authentically.
I was overcome by the love, joy, and connection I felt at Pride. There was something powerful about seeing people show up exactly as they are and be met with celebration rather than judgment. Freedom and safety felt tangible. Community felt tangible.
While Pride Month offers an opportunity to celebrate and honor the LGBTQ+ community, love, acceptance, and belonging should never be limited to a single month or festival. The spirit of Pride can be carried into our everyday lives through compassion, advocacy, curiosity, and creating spaces where people feel safe to be themselves.
As a therapist, I know how meaningful it can be to have a space where your identity is welcomed, affirmed, and explored without shame. Whether you are questioning, transitioning, navigating relationships, healing from past experiences, or simply looking for support, you do not have to do it alone.
If you are looking for support or resources for the LGBTQ+ community, don't hesitate to reach out. I have also included some resources below.
